Crystal Palace vs Arsenal live score, updates, highlights: Updates as Gabriel Martinelli heads in opening goal in 2022-23 Premier League season
The 2022-23 Premier League season was one for the ages. Records were broken, new stars
were born, and the title race went down to the wire. Here are some of the superlatives from an unforgettable season:
-Best Player: Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City)
-Best Young Player: Mason Greenwood (Manchester United)
-Best Manager: Pep Guardiola (Manchester City)
-Best Goal: Riyad Mahrez (Manchester City) vs. Liverpool
-Best Save: Alisson Becker (Liverpool) vs. Manchester City
-Best Team: Manchester City
The Premier League is back, and with it comes the chance to predict what
may happen in the league while everyone is still on level footing. From
the best newcomer to picking the most important American to their team,
we've got every angle covered--even some that you didn't know that you
needed. So strap in and let's get to some predictions. We'll also
predict the traditional top four, the teams that will be relegated, and
the winner of the title.
Best Newcomer: Darwin Nunez, Liverpool
Nunez is a significant upgrade for the Liverpool offense as Jurgen Klopp restocks the squad in place of Sadio Mane. It's reasonable to anticipate more than 20 goals from Nunez in all competitions as long as he plays regularly after scoring 34 goals and providing four assists while playing for Benfica. With the successful signing of Luis Diaz last season, Klopp has already demonstrated that the scouting department is confident transitioning players from Portugal, although Nunez is different from Liverpool's typical leading forwards.
Nunez is a forward who shoots first and asks questions afterwards, thus he will need on support from those around him. The good news is that crosses into the box from players like Mohamed Salah, Thiago, Andrew Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Diaz are a forward's dream. Even if he moves to the wing, Salah can fill the void in the middle, making Liverpool even more dangerous. The biggest change will be getting used to the press, but Liverpool packed the summer with friendlies to give the team as much playing time as possible before beginning the grind of the season. The biggest point in Nunez's favor over the summer's more heralded move of Erling Haaland to Manchester City is that I see him getting more starts in an attack that can match City step for step.
Golden Boot Winner: Mohamed Salah, Liverpool
The large red machine advances. Salah signed a contract extension, ensuring his continued role as a crucial component of the attack. Given that Salah has already won at least a share of three of the previous five awards, picking him to win the golden boot seems simple. In the previous five seasons, only Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy have outperformed him. Vardy is prone to injuries as he gets older, and Heung-Min Son, who tied Salah for the Golden Boot last season, has supplanted Kane as the most feared attacker for Spurs. While missing out on the World Cup with Egypt would be disappointing, it will also make for a good second half of the season when Salah is rested while others aren't. It will be another strong season for Salah and the Reds.
Most Improved Team: Newcastle United
This is a complicated answer because Newcastle United performed admirably last year, but their leap from the bottom to the top is a greater accomplishment than, say, escaping
relegation by moving up the midtable like Brentford. Due to the quality of their defense, the Magpies are sporadic contenders for the Europa League and have very little competition this summer. While the arrival of Matt Targett as a permanent member is undoubtedly a strong improvement for them, Sven Botman and Nick Pope represent major boosts. Newcastle under Eddie Howe only needs one of Manchester United or West Ham United to make a mistake in order to crash the European celebration for England. If Newcastle is successful in qualifying for Europe, I'd also support Howe for coach of the year given the team's growth this year.
Biggest Drop in the Table: Wolverhampton Wanderers
What the Wolves front staff is doing is difficult to discern. Bruno Lage needs offensive reinforcements, but Fabio Silva was instead loaned to Belgium without a confirmed
replacement. Wolves' offensive is already compromised by Raul Jimenez's injury at the start of the season. Nathan Collins in central defense has been the only addition this summer. After allowing Romain Saiss depart this summer, he's a means to become younger in defense, but he won't solve Wolves' most urgent issues. While Morgan Gibbs-White may carry his impressive form from his loan with Sheffield United home, playing as a ten instead of a second striker may alter his ability to have an impact on the game.Pedro Neto and Deniel Podence must make big advancements if Wolves are to succeed. It's possible that they'll accomplish it, but if they don't, their attack, which managed only 38 goals last season (the fourth-worst total in the league), will suffer and the squad will ultimately fail.
Best Promoted Side: Nottingham Forest
Due to Bournemouth's lack of activity and Fulham's Premier League history, The Tricky
Trees are the winners of this title. Steve Cooper faces a challenging task in getting their new additions to gel, but it must be simpler than it was the previous season, when he took over the team in the middle of the campaign and guided them to promotion from the Championship. Forest has added some impressive players, but they must make sure that Taiwo Awoniyi and Brennan Johnson are given strong support in the attack. It might be a difficult start for Forest, and I wouldn't be surprised if they finished anywhere from dead last to tenth in the league. Expectations for points early in the season will be low due to the presence of Newcastle, West Ham, Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester City. However, this will give the team time to gel under pressure before three games back-to-back against opponents that will be in the same relegation zone as them. We should at least have a general notion of Forest's direction before the end of September.
Breakout Performer: Eberechi Eze, Crystal Palace
When he was acquired from QPR, Eze was one of the most exciting players in the
Championship. However, he hasn't been able to match his productive first campaign with the Eagles, when he scored four goals and provided six assists. With a full preseason under his belt and the number ten shirt indicating that he has also gained Patrick Vieira's faith, he has returned after missing a large amount of time due to an Achilles injury. Eze will take on the role of being the creative hub of the Palace attack now that Conor Gallagher is back at Chelsea, which could easily lead to him surpassing double figures in goals and assists this year. This season, Eze's performances will be crucial to the success of Vieira's specific project in South London.
Most Valuable American Player: Tyler Adams, Leeds United
All eyes are on Leeds United's American duo of Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson
because Christian Pulisic must struggle for minutes at Chelsea, Chris Richards is in a similar situation with Crystal Palace, and Antonee Robinson is battling an uphill battle with Fulham. Kalvin Phillips, who moved on to Manchester City, is being replaced by Adams. Adams and Marc Roca have been charged with helping Leeds fill the enormous gap he left in the lineup. Adams is a capable defensive midfielder, so Jesse Marsch needs to be aware of what he can and cannot do in order to avoid becoming overworked while attempting to adapt to life in the Premier League. Leeds will need to strengthen their defense if they want to move beyond last season, when they barely avoided being relegated. Adams will play a key role in that. A difficult start to the season for Leeds could cause uncertainty to start to spread, but if everything goes according to plan, Adams will be in a terrific position before the World Cup in November.
Best Young Player: Bukayo Saka, Arsenal
One month from today, Saka will mark his 21st birthday. It's strange that he will only be 20when the season begins despite having played three seasons of Premier League soccer. In this dynamic Arsenal team, Saka is essentially a seasoned veteran. After a breakthrough season in which he contributed to seven more goals and scored 11 goals in Premier League action, Arsenal has surrounded Saka with more talent so that he can drive the attack.Saka could make last season's counting stats look like nothing with Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, and Martin Odegaard in the final third, but his main goal is to get Arsenal back into Champions League play after missing out due to a loss to their North London rivals Tottenham right before the final match week of the regular season. Arsenal will hopefully stop leaving things so late this season as a result of the disappointment.

33 mins: Martinelli missed a golden opportunity to find the back of the net in the opening five minutes of the match, but he made amends by knocking home from a corner kick routine.

15 mins: You can see what Jesus will bring to this Arsenal team. The Brazilian forward is dribbling past Palace defenders and is drifting out wide to create space for himself to run into. He has the potential to be a transformational signing for the Gunners!
11 mins: Palace started well, but Arsenal have taken a grip of things in the last five minutes or so. They are playing some nice stuff with the ball at their feet. The home side are having to sit deep and keep things tight at the back for the time being.
8 mins: Zinchenko has a shot! The ball fell nicely for the Arsenal left back on the edge of the Palace box, he struck it cleanly, but Guaita makes the stop. The chance is recycled and Partey has an effort too, but his shot is blocked 20 yards out from the goal.
4 mins: Should be 1-0! What an opportunity for Arsenal! Jesus dribbles through the Palace defence, he scuffs his shot, the ball falls nicely for Martinelli, but he somehow manages to put his shot across goal and wide of the far post!
3 mins: It's been a solid start to the match by Crystal Palace who are controlling possession in the early stages. Of course, this Palace team have changed their style of play since the appointment of Vieira last summer. They like to play with the ball at their feet.

110 mins from kickoff: Arsenal fans are excited ahead of the start of the 22/23 season, and perhaps with good reason! The Gunners had a strong pre-season. Jesus has made an instant impact and Arsenal have hopes of making the step into the top four!
120 mins from kickoff: Good evening and welcome to The Sporting News' live coverage of the Premier League curtain-raiser between Crystal Palace and Arsenal.
Vieira's team host the Gunners at Selhurst Park, and while the away side are the favourites, it should be noted Palace beat Arsenal 3-0 in the same fixture last season. This could be fascinating!
