Halloween Ends - 2022
A little child named Jeremy is being watched by Corey Cunningham, age 21, on Halloween night in the
year 2019. Jeremy plays a practical joke on Corey by locking him in the attic. Corey mistakenly knocks open the door just as Jeremy's parents arrive home, killing him by throwing him over the railing of the staircase. Corey is accused of murdering Jeremy on purpose but is exonerated of manslaughter.
Three years later, the town of Haddonfield, Illinois, is still reeling from the aftermath of Michael Myers's latest killing spree in 2018, while Michael has vanished. Laurie Strode is writing a memoir, having bought a new house and living with Allyson, her granddaughter, who is now a nurse. Meanwhile, Corey is working at his stepfather's salvage yard. On his way home one day, he is taunted by high school bullies and injures himself in the process. An observing Laurie brings him to the doctor's office where Allyson works. Allyson and Corey develop a relationship and later attend a Halloween party, where Corey is confronted by Jeremy's mother. After having an argument with Allyson, Corey leaves the party and runs into the bullies, who throw him off a bridge. He is dragged into the sewers and confronted by Michael, who eventually lets him go. On the way out, Corey is confronted by a homeless man. In a struggle, Corey stabs the man to death and flees.
At their dinner date, Corey and Allyson are both harassed by Allyson's ex-boyfriend, police officer Doug Mulaney. Later, Corey draws the officer into the sewer. Doug is killed by Michael, much to Corey's delight. At work, a fellow nurse who is having an affair with the doctor is given a promotion instead of Allyson. After that, Michael kills the nurse while Corey murders the doctor at his house. Due to the past trauma, an unaware Allyson is preparing to leave Haddonfield with an insistent Corey, while Laurie grows more wary of Corey. Laurie promises to assist him after seeing him sleeping where Jeremy died, but only if he keeps Allyson at a distance.Corey retorts by blaming her for the events that have occurred in Haddonfield and says if he cannot have Allyson, no one will.
On October 31, Corey makes a triumphant return to the sewers and challenges Michael for his mask. Allyson is about to leave when Laurie and Allyson start fighting, and Allyson also holds Laurie responsible for Michael's behavior. That evening, after leading the bullies to the salvage yard, Corey goes on the attack and inadvertently kills his stepfather before killing the thugs. He continues by killing his mother and the radio station DJ who had earlier made fun of him.
In an effort to draw Corey to her at the Strode residence, Laurie pretends to commit suicide before shooting him down the stairs. Then, in front of Allyson, who has just arrived, Corey stabs himself in the neck to blame Laurie for his passing. Michael kills Corey when he appears out of nowhere. Following the altercation, Laurie is able to pin Michael to the table. Allyson shows up after a struggle to assist in capturing and killing him. His body is taken by Laurie and Allyson to the salvage yard under police protection, where they dispose of it in an industrial shredder while being followed by Haddonfield residents in a procession. Allyson and Laurie reconcile in the days that follow, and Allyson departs Haddonfield, while Laurie completes her memoir and rediscovers her love for Deputy Hawkins.

Production
Development
Danny McBride and David Gordon Green originally planned two films that would have been shot back-to-back. The writing team completed a first draft for each film in 2019. Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends are set to be released in 2020 and 2021. Universal is considering releasing both films in October 2020. Halloween Ends will take place four years after the events of Halloween Kills.
The film will be an intimate coming-of-age story, much like Carpenter's Christine (1983). Other cited influences for the film were Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker and My Bodyguard.
Filming
Filming was quietly delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Production was expected to take place in 2021 in Wilmington, North Carolina. However, filming officially began on January 19, 2022, in Savannah, Georgia.
Post-production
Halloween 3D has been in post-production since May 2018 and will be the last Halloween film from Jason Blumhouse. The final confrontation between Laurie Strode and Michael Myers and the ending sequence were discarded, and re-shoots for new scenes took place two months before the film's premiere.
Box office
Halloween Ends has grossed $56.5 million in the United States and Canada, and $29.7 million in other territories. It topped the box office but finished below projections. The film dropped by 80% in its second weekend, finishing fourth with $8 million.
Critical response
Critics have largely given the film a negative review, with one critic calling it "neither scary nor fun". Another called it "the most joylessly metaphorical and convoluted entry" of the franchise to date. Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the film an average grade of "C+" on an A+ to F scale. Reviewer David Rooney called it "a sloppy movie whose principal new inspiration feels bogus". Reviewer Brian Tallerico of RogerEbert.com found the film to be "poorly executed" and "barely a 'Halloween' movie".
Future
Jamie Lee Curtis has confirmed that her final appearance in the franchise will be Halloween Ends. Jason Blum has confirmed it will be the last film produced by Blumhouse Productions. The intellectual property rights to the series will revert to Malek Akkad following Ends' release.
Music
The score for Halloween Ends was composed by John Carpenter, his son Cody Carpenter, and Daniel Davies, who had previously collaborated on the first two films in the series. The official soundtrack was released digitally on October 14, 2022, by Sacred Bones Records, with a limited vinyl release set for January 20, 2023. In anticipation of the film's premiere, two tracks were released in September 2022, "The Junk Yard" and "The Procession". Recorded entirely at Carpenter and Davies's home studios, the score incorporates themes from the original 1978 film and features original music from electronic music group Boy Harsher.
